For my first ever top 10 list I decided to stick with the Halloween theme, And since one of my favorite TV shows just started up I figured Why not? For those of you who don't know,
The Walking Dead is a comic book series about a man named Rick Grimes who wakes up from a coma to find himself in a zombie apocalypse. The series later spawned a television series, and later games, this list will take winners from all of these parts. So here are my top ten favorite characters from
The Walking Dead franchise.
10. Shane Walsh
Shane makes the list solely by his television appearance. Shane is Rick's old partner who takes care of his family after the apocalypse happens and Rick is in a coma. But when Rick comes back it is revealed Shane has fallen for Lori, Rick's wife, and will do anything to have her back. In the comic he is killed off early when he tries to kill Rick as soon as he returns. Carl shoots him in the neck and that's the end. In the television series however Shane sticks around, and is Ricks rival for leadership. In season 2 Shane becomes Rick's opposite, whereas Rick wants to save everyone he can, Shane decides that survival means you sometimes have to kill those who get in the way. This leads up to a climactic showdown where Rick has to kill him in self defense, but then he comes back and is the reason the group realizes that no matter how you die, you come back.
9. Michonne
A lot of people are surprised when I tell them Michonne isn't in my top 3, but hear me out. Michonne is a wandering samurai who has two walkers she uses to walk around freely, the walkers are her boyfriend and his best friend who had their jaws and arms removed so they can't harm her. I placed her so low because of all the trouble she causes when she first joins the group. First off she seduces Tyreese, which drives his then girlfriend Carol to suicide, then she attacks the Governor. Of course I can sorta forgive her here since the Governor imprisons her and rapes her everyday for weeks, the problem here is she doesn't finish him off. So he comes after the group with an army and kills many of them, as well as ruin the safe haven they have built. I just don't like her personality.
8. Andrea
Comic Andrea is a bad ass, she's been shot, stabbed, and her ear was removed. When the group establishes a life in the prison Andrea takes up shooting, and its discovered she has a knack for it, so from then on she becomes the team sniper. Add that to a tragic and compelling back story and she earns her spot here.
7. Molly
The first game character on the list. You meet Molly in episode 4 of
The Walking Dead The Game, and in the short time you know her you find out she's been on her own for a while, she beats the crap out of the player and Kenny, and kills a butt-load of zombies. Later it is revealed that she escaped the Crawford community after the doctor stopped giving her medication for her sisters diabetes. Her whole family is dead, she wields a pickaxe, and is one of the few lone wolfs in the franchise, thus she makes it to number 7.
6. Sgt. Abraham Ford
Sgt. Ford was a Marine before the world went to hell, as such he is one of the few characters actually trained to survive. His group is on a mission to get to Washington DC where the scientist of the group claims there is a cure for the outbreak. This turns out to be false however, but Abraham sticks around to help with the new community. His death is very sudden and kinda threw me for a second, he also killed civilians soon after the outbreak happened when they started turning violent at the local shelter in his hometown. This guy is like the classic action star, and it serves him pretty well in the zombie apocalypse, his downfall came from an enemy camp.
5. Paul "Jesus" Monroe
This guy showed up out of nowhere claiming he wanted an alliance between his group and Rick's. Abraham and Michonne don't believe him and try to kill him, this is how he makes the list, Paul then proceeds to beat them both into submission. His offer turns out to be legit, and Paul himself turns out to be extremely forgiving, and even allows himself to be locked up until the group decides on what to do with him.
4. Tyreese
Oh Tyreese how I miss thee. Tyreese was a football star before the outbreak happened, and he almost instantly becomes Rick's best friend. He is traveling with his daughter and her boyfriend when we meet him. However they kill each other as part of a suicide pact. This leaves him alone. He is the only character who never learned to aim. So when he needs to kill walkers he prefers to use his trusty hammer. Tyreese became the voice of reason when Rick started to descend into madness in the prison, and his death is the result of Michonne's attack on the Governor.
3. Lee Everett
The main character of the games, Lee ranks so high because his actions are based on decisions the player makes, so it's easy to relate to him. Lee was on his way to prison for murder when the outbreak happens, when he escapes he comes across a little girl named Clementine, who's parents are most likely dead. Lee then decides to take care of her at all costs as if she were his own. Lee becomes the unofficial leader of the group while two other members are fighting for control, and if the series ends the way I think it will, he will die protecting the group.
2. Rick Grimes
Rick is the main character of the original comic and the television show. In the show Rick is starting to become awesome, but in the comic his badassery is turned up to 11. Rick kicks all kinds of ass and kills many survivors that he feels needed to die. Remember earlier when I said Paul beat up the two characters who actually can fight? Well Rick kicks his ass with one hand. This is because the comic version only has one hand, which is hard to see in the image. But even that doesn't stop him. He leads the group with a "Ricktatorship" meaning whatever he says goes, no debate.
1. Daryl Dixon
Daryl is a character from the show. he started out as a guest star, but was so popular that he is now a main character. Daryl is a redneck, squirrel eating, Harley riding, crossbow wielding, expert tracking badass. Unlike the others on this list, Daryl was bred for this world. In fact one of the best episodes from season 2 is when he goes off looking for Sophia, a little girl that disappeared, and falls down a cliff. He impales himself on his own crossbow bolt and is attacked by walkers. throughout the episode he keeps imagining his older brother is there, telling him to stop being a pussy and suck it up. This guy is so badass that after he falls down a cliff, impales himself, and has his shoes gnawed on by walkers, that when he starts talking to himself he tells himself to stop being a pussy. He even continues the search for Sophia the next day. If the zombie apocalypse does happen, seek out this guy and listen to what he tells you to do.
